The upcoming Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj is expected to attract around 40 crore visitors over a 45-day period starting on January 13, 2025. The event is set to witness over 10 lakh pilgrims daily. To ensure the success of the event, the government is executing 260 development projects with a budget of Rs 3,738 crore.
“The ‘mela’ is expected to generate a revenue of Rs 1.2 lakh crore for Uttar Pradesh, the state where it is being held, while neighbouring states like Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh will also benefit from the enhanced revenue generation with a large number of national and foreign tourists expected.
The economic activities associated with the festival will generate employment for over 600,000 workers across various sectors, as per the CII report.
